10 Of The Best Things About Being A Woman

It’s International Women’s Day today and, whilst many people are seizing this opportunity to write about feminism and other very important topics, I decided to break up the seriousness with something a little more light-hearted. Happy International Women’s Day, everyone!

1. Outfit diversity

We have an insanely huge array of choices when it comes to how we style ourselves on a daily basis. Skirts, trousers, shirts, dresses, boots, heels…and as if that wasn’t enough, we also have a multitude of hairstyle choices. I genuinely feel sorry for guys when I look at their (noticeably smaller) clothing section in stores. C’mon fashion, let’s give the guys a little more choice, eh?

2. We rock at multi-tasking

We’re happy, free, confused and lonely at the same time. Seriously though, I actually manage to surprise myself sometimes with how many things I can juggle at once.

3. We can carry our whole lives around on our arms in a handbag

Most men put all of their important belongings in their pockets when they head out somewhere, but that’s just not enough space for us (and actually, a lot of our clothes don’t have pockets…). Handbags allow us to take out twice as much as guys can and we also don’t have to sit on a wallet, keys, or anything else that might be stashed away in those tiny pockets. The only negative of this point is the inevitable ‘handbag clean out’ which is eventually required to alleviate the space consumed by receipts, odd coins and that banana which we planned to have for breakfast a week ago but forgot about…

4. All of our toilets are in separate cubicles

We will never experience the awkwardness which men are forced to suffer at urinals. Let’s just celebrate that for a second, ladies. Men, you have my sympathies.

5. We photograph absolutely everything

50 group shots before a night out? Yep. A nice Instagram of our lunch? Standard. Men might consider our obsessive photo-taking an annoyance, but we’re actually creating the most detailed photo album of life that will ever exist. In 10 years time, we will smile and laugh (and probably cry a little) over all of those ridiculous memories.

6. We’re not afraid to express our emotions

We laugh, we cry and most importantly, we don’t care what anyone thinks of us when we’re doing so.

7. SLEEPOVERS (or slumber parties if you’re American)

It makes me a little bit sad that men will never experience the fun of sleepovers. Who knows, maybe times have changed and they do get together to paint each other’s nails, gossip and watch chick flicks? Guys?

8. We have an insanely good memory

Everyone knows that the memory of a woman is a powerful thing and it also seems to just get better with age. If you’ve forgotten where you put something, your mum/sister/friend/girlfriend will always be able to tell you where you left it, no doubt about it.

9. Makeup

Bad skin day? Makeup. Feeling creative? Makeup. Fancy a new look? Makeup. Makeup hides a whole multitude of evils and no one should ever underestimate the power of red lipstick.

10. We form the best friendships

As a woman, nothing is a secret when it comes to friends; we end up telling our girl friends everything, even things that probably shouldn’t be shared. All in all, the closeness makes for a very strong and loyal friendship. My girl friends are like my second family and I wouldn’t trade them for the world. They’re also completely nuts, just like me.

I understand that some of these points might also apply to men, but this is just a jokey post, so please don’t take offence! If anyone has any other (ridiculous or serious) reasons why being a woman is awesome, please feel free to leave them in the comments so we can have a laugh and appreciate them together! Hope you’ve all had a lovely International Women’s Day.

Love, Alissa
